Left wrist tattoo: Ryan Goslings' fourth tattoo is a homemade tattoo that looks like a fading ink stamp. For Ryan, “A tattoo should never be meaningful, because at a certain point you’re going to hate it, and it might as well make you laugh.”
Ryan's third tattoo, in his own words: "One of my tattoos is supposed to be a monster's hand dropping a bloody heart but I did it myself with a tattoo kit so it looks like a cactus".
The Lady and the Skeleton: his second tattoo, placed on the left inner arm, represents a Lady with a Skeleton. The lady is Theda Bara and she was a famous actress in the silent era. She played in more than 40 movies between 1914 and 1926.
The Giving Tree: When Ryan Gosling was a child, his moom used to read to him and his sister "The Giving Tree". So, as his first tattoo (and probably as a reminder of his happy childhood) he got tattooed on his left arm the cover of the book, even though his thought about the book is not very good, as he said in an interview at Cannes in 2010: "That book is so f***ed up; that story’s the worst. I mean, at the end the tree is a stump and the old guy just sitting on him #8212; he’s just used him to death, and you’re supposed to want to be the tree? F*** you. You be the tree. I don’t want to be the tree".
